Does My Head Look Big In This?Published by: Orchard Books
Summary: A sixteen-year-old girl has enough to worry about with clothes, hair, crushes, catching the latest Friends episode, and piles of homework. Amal, a Australian-Muslim-Palestinian, has just made the biggest decision of her life so far: to wear the hijab full-time. Despite the various reactions of the people around her, Amal has courage and wit as she stands up for her faith - all while trying to avoid being called "towel-head." Amal struggles to find the perfect way to stand out as a proud Muslim girl, while finding ways to blend in with all of her peers as most self-concisous teens do!
Personal Review: Amal is now one of my favorite fictional teenage girls! She tries to overcome self-consciouness by gaining a real sense of who she is and who she wants to be and to be proud of herself! There are many teens that can relate to the dilemmas and problems Amal has to work through and I think all readers can be inspired by the witty, clever ways she handles herself!
