The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing: Traitor to the NationVolume 1: The Pox Party
By MT Anderson
Published by Candlewick, 2006
Summary:
Octavian is a young African boy raised in Revolutionary War era in a home full of philosopher and scientists. As he gets older he realizes that while he and his mother are well-fed and dressed, they are no different from every other African slave and are property of the people conducting experiments....on them.
My Review:
This book was hard for me to get into right up until the end. However, I think someone else might enjoy the fact that it is a part of the United States' history that is not talked about much from am persepective that is not represented usually. It is very graphic and the experiments done are for older readers.
WARNING: scientific experimentation on humans and animals, violence, abuse, mild sexual content
