Three Little Words
A Memoir
By Ashley Rhodes-Courter

Published by : Athenium

Summary:

In this autobiographical story, Ashley has been in and out of foster homes, foster centers, adoption homes, and a children's home for most of her life. Suffering abusive foster parents, death of loved ones, and the feelings of neglect and worthlessness become part of her view of the world and cause her to doubt everyone and everything she encoun
ters. So when a family adopts her and wants to love her, will she be able to let them into her life?

My Review:
This was a life-changing book for me, probably because the author is my age right now. The scenes described in this book are so powerful and beg to be read and understood as more than a sensational story, but as someone's real life growing up in horrific conditions that are not part of history books or fictional stories, but the lives of children all around our own towns and homes in the present day. Hearing real-life accounts of children whose hands are super-glued to a wall and then are abandoned by their parents help a reader be aware of terrors that many children face and how many of them need someone to love them, defend them, and give them hope that their lives do not have to be defined by what they were denied in their childhood.

WARNING: Language, sexual jokes/scenes, child abuse, disturbing stories involving children
